Sales Policy and Guarantee
Horses for Sale

Each year, we select a few of our very finest horses and offer them for sale. These are horses that have worked their way up through our various programs and who we feel best represent us, our ranch, and our type of horse. These are horses on which we are proud to place our brand and our name.

We specialize in safe, sound, middle aged (7-16yr) horses who are suited for family and recreational use - solid, gentle, mountain trail horses, primarily stout, versatile, honest, ranch geldings. These are the type
that work best for us, too.

If you are looking for a gentle, quiet, sound horse to be used for recreational riding - please check out some of the horses we have for sale here or call or email us to see what we have to suit your needs.
Stampede Sale Information

Watch the Stampede Sale and Horse Drive LIVE ONLINE - Here!

Each year, we will feature many of our horses for sale during our Annual Horse Roundup & Drive, where you can see them preview right down Main Street, Three Forks - being ridden by our guests who help us round up hundreds of horses and trail them home from winter range. They will be auctioned at the STAMPEDE SALE on Saturday, April 26th at 3pm at the Sacajawea Hotel, following the herd coming through town. Many of the horses will be available for preview beginning at 10am on Saturday and some will be arriving with the herd around 1pm. Watch them in action as they work - running horses, for crowd control, previewed in the sales arena, and then chat with the riders who used them during the Drive.

Horses will be auctioned DURING the Stampede Sale for offers IN EXCESS of their stated prices.   Sale horses are available at the
Mantle Ranch by appointment.

To buy a horse during the Stampede Horse Sale, you will need to be a QUALIFIED BUYER. Apply for a buyer number prior to or during the sale. We encourage you to call us to discuss details and ask questions prior to
Sale Day at 406 285-3541.

You will need to provide verifiable proof of adequate funds available and be able to transport your horse immediately for the 7-day assessment period.

Can’t make it? Call us to arrange a sales agent. You can bid live via phone with a personal agent while you watch it online!

Our Guarantee
(Please read – this has changed as of April 15, 2008)

We strive to match you with YOUR perfect horse and to find the right home for each of our horses. We offer replacement for seven days.

Once you have found a horse you feel is right for you, take him home. You have a seven day assessment period at your home to be sure. If you decide he isn’t right, though we will NOT give you your money back, we will always exchange your horse for another. After seven days, we are still here to answer questions, help with issues that arise, and if necessary we will replace a horse you no longer feel is right - even months later.

Arrange a Visit

Contact us any time to discuss our horses for sale by phoning or emailing. When you are ready for a preview appointment, we’ll arrange a day for your visit when we can properly show you the horse and give you the opportunity to ride and preview him here on our ranch and on our trails.

If you are traveling and require overnight accommodations, we have cabins available at a special Buyer’s rate of $75 per night. See more info here.

Payment:
Payment in full is necessary at time of sale.  We accept cash, money order, or cashiers check, and Visa/MasterCard.  Checks are subject to prior approval through our office, or at time of sale
with a bank letter verifying funds.

Our Sales Policies

* Our prices are not negotiable.

* We will make appointments to preview horses here on our ranch, to QUALIFIED BUYERS only.

Before you dial the phone to Montana Horses to buy a horse:

These are things that shouldn’t need to be said, but apparently do.  We’ve had 3 horses come home this week after their 7 day trial period (under our previous policy) for the following reasons:
1. “I love your horse and he is everything you said he was, and more, but my
husband said I couldn’t have one.”
2. “I can’t catch the horse in my pasture.”
3. “I don’t want to ride alone and my husband can’t catch his.”
Folks, this a waste of everyone’s time
and unneeded miles and risk on my horses.
If you ARE NOT ready to buy today - please don’t call.  I unfortunately don’t have the time.  I want to be the last stop, not the first.  This is a policy change effective today so listen up.

Here is what being ready (A QUALIFIED BUYER) means:
1. I have the amount of money for the horse listed.
2. I have, and will bring, a horse trailer to haul him/her home today.
3.  I understand I will never get my money back.  However; I can return the horse for another until I am satisfied and will collect or pay the difference in the purchase price of the replacement horse.
* All assessment expenses are the responsibility of the buyer, including transportation, transfers (health/brand), and vet checks.

* If you choose to involve a veterinarian or trainer to help with your assessment, require them to look at the horse's health & suitability for the application in which you are putting the horse. (example - Is this horse healthy and suitable for pleasure mountain trail riding?) See a note from Kail: click here!

* Full ownership of the horse will transfer to the buyer when the horse leaves our ranch. This includes the responsibility for your own safety AND the health and care of the horse.

* You will sign a Sales Agreement that includes an inspection form indicting that you have received the horse in a healthy and acceptable condition. Full ownership and all liability for the horse will then transfer to you, the new owner. We reserve the right to refuse to replace a horse if we feel the horse has been injured, mis-trained, or is no longer of the same value to us for any reason OR if we feel the buyer was not earnest in their attempt to assess the horse. MONTANA HORSES WILL BE THE SOLE JUDGE IN THIS MATTER!
